Blogger Friend School- Assignment 18

This week’s assignment we are to tell about what we wanted to be when we grew up.  This has changed many times over the years and I’m still trying to decide what I want to do.

No kidding—I have always wanted to be a wife and mother to 3 children, two boys and a girl thrown in for good measure.  I even had their names picked out, but as my dream became reality the names were changed.  Probably a good thing or our family would have had a few cousins with the same names. Instead, we chose each child’s name to honor someone special in our lives.  (That story will make a good post for another time).

I enjoyed working with children. I started babysitting when I was 12 or 13, and did it pretty much every spare moment.  So I had mused about being a teacher.  I have done that and am still doing it only at home now.

I really wanted to be a singer/actress and was part of several different performances during my youth.  But alas, that wasn’t going to pay the bills.

I have been writing ever since elementary school, with a fondness for poetry and music.  I have a trunk full of songs I have written and cassette tapes of those songs that I recorded in my teenage years. I still dream of someday being published.

My mother and I often still talk about what I want to be when I grow up even now that I am over 40.  When the kids are grown and gone I would like to go back to school and learn computer programming and software design.  I would like to create educational programs for teens that keep them interested while they learn something.  I would also learn to write better so that perhaps someday I will be a published author that someone would like to read.

This Scripture verse seems fitting for this assignment:

Proverbs 3:5-6    Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths

Thank you for sharing! Unlike you, I didn't grow up with a healthy perspective of woman/wife/motherhood. Isn't it amazing how God works in each of our lives? Grace and peace, Leinani

I also had many ideas fo what I'd like to be when I grew up (whenever that will be!!). I also became a teacher and now homeschool.

I thought this was a great assignment – a real trip down memory lane!

Daughter, It is never too late to reach your dreams. Look at me, entering collage as a freshman at 43. In eight years I earned a Doctor of Education degree. It is never too late to start. When I graduated the last time, an 85 year old man graduated with me having earned his doctorate degree. Keep reach for the stars and someday they will be yours. but you have to take the first step in the journey. Love you, Mom

You really ought to pursue getting your music going. You just might have a real treasure in that trunk! I keep thinking my kids are going to be great lyricists. Is that a word? They're so much more creative with words than I could ever be.

Get those out of that trunk now……I'll just bet someone somewhere will want to sing one for you!

    That's a fun assignment!

I was just stopping by to let you know that I received the frame today. It's beautiful and much more than I expected. For some reason, I thought it would just be the matte. I also didn't expect to get the magnet too. Thank you so much for the time and effort you spent customizing it just for me.

Have you tried submitting any of your poetry anywhere? I took an intensive 3 week writing workshop with editors and they strongly encouraged all of us to submit articles, etc. And that wasn't because they thought we were top notch, but because they think more people should submit their writings. They could be surprised. We were all required ot submit something to someone. I decided to submit a lesson plan to her and she put it in her scholarly journal.

    Blessings,

    Laurie
