We had a very nice Fourth of July. My folks came over as did my oldest son and we cooked the traditional hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill. My husband had requested I make my macaroni salad and there was carrot cake, watermelon, grapes, and blueberries for dessert. After lunch we had great conversation and just relaxed. Later in the evening the kids went out on the porch and watched the neighbors shoot off their fireworks.
Yesterday morning, our middle son left for his weeklong stay at Boy Scout camp. He has been assigned Patrol Leader for the trip and has been put in charge of the duty roster and its implementation. This summer he has been receiving a lot of leader experience. He was a volunteer at Cub Scout camp for a week and now this. Those that work with him say he is very good at it. Before he left, I asked him to be sure to call once or twice this week. I had mentioned a bad dream I had had a few days ago concerning him and bad weather. At 10:30 last night the phone rang. We had had some storms in the area and he just wanted me to know that everything was good. So sweet of him.
While he is gone this week I thought my daughter and I would do some girly things. Today I am taking her and her friend (and their dolls) to see Kit Kittredge: An American Girl and then out to lunch. Tomorrow we’ll go to the rink for a while and then to her favorite place, Build-a-Bear. Wednesday she volunteers at the library in the morning then has ball practice in the afternoon. We haven’t made plans for the rest of the week but I’m sure we’ll come up with something. I think we will have some good mommy and me time.
I love the simple life of summer.
Sounds like a nice time! I do that too when one child is away…try to find some special things to do with just that one. It's hard to find that kind of time when you have more than one. I guess it's about to get even harder for me… =)
…you've got a fun week planned. The girls and I (and my mom) went to see the Kit movie last Thursday night. I thought it was very cute. I forget- does Brenda have an American Girl doll? Ashley has 2 of them (Gracie has 2 Bitty Babies, but she's not really a "doll girl"). We love the dolls AND the books.

That is great that your son is getting leadership experience and you and your dd get special time together.

Sounds like you had a great 4th of July weekend!
Hope your son has lots of fun at camp.

It all sounds wonderful! I hope the movie was good. I'd like to see it!
