Homeschool Meme

I feel like I have fallen out of the homeschooling blog loop because of the work load that I have been trying to maintain the past few years and not making time for the blog hopping that I love so much. So I spent a little time this weekend just exploring various homeschool blogs. I am so encourage that there are so many out there. I found this little meme and wanted to share too.

1.  One homeschooling book you have enjoyed

A Charlotte Mason Companion: Personal Reflections on the Gentle Art of Learning by Karen Andreola. I really wish that I had known about this book when I first started homeschooling. It has really inspired me to look at educating my children in a whole new way and actually encouraged me to be a more relaxed homeschool mom.

2.  One resource you wouldn’t be without

There isn’t one particular book that I feel lost without but I would be lost without the internet and the library. To me those two things are invaluable when planning and teaching.

3. One resource you wish you had never bought

I know many folks love Bob Jones University products, but for us they just did not work. I am glad that we learned that early on and were able to pass the books onto someone who really wanted them.

4.  One resource you enjoyed last year

We absolutely loved The Mystery of History Volume 2. It actually was our first year using it. It really worked great for us and we were able to use it for High School World History. We are now working through Volume 3 this year. We love the bite size lessons and all the extension projects and map work. I found it to be engaging and very comprehensive and a whole lot more interesting than most of the other dry high school history books.

5. One resource you will be using next year

Sure hope that Mystery of History Volume 4 will be ready, but if it’s not we will just do an Economics and Government course and hopefully Volume 4 will be ready the year after.

6. One resource you would like to buy

I would so love to be able to afford the Rosetta Stone Spanish program. I have heard so many great things about it, but it is way out of our budget.

7. One resource you wish existed

This year we have been doing Botany for science and I have been working from several different resources because there really isn’t a high school level Botany course. I really wish that Apologia would have a Botany course for high school. Jeannie Fulbright’s Exploring Creation with Botany is a very good guide but not enough for a thorough botany course.

8. One homeschool catalogue you enjoy reading

The Rainbow Resource Catalog is my absolute favorite. It is the most thorough resource I have ever found.

9. One homeschooling website you use regularly

This is a really tough one seeing that I work for the Old Schoolhouse Magazine and spend hours there every single day, but the other homeschooling sites I visit are the Simply Charlotte Mason blog and The Handbook of Nature Study. I subscribe via email to a lot of other sites so I get to read them all in one place. (I created a separate email account in gmail so that all my subscriptions come into one mailbox and I can view a whole slew of them all at one time.)

10. Tag other homeschoolers

Well, like I said I have been out of the loop for a while and am really trying to reconnect, so here’s the deal. If you’re reading this and have yet to do this meme, then TAG! You’re it! Please let me know in the comments below if you did this one either now or from before and leave me a link so I can come by and visit. I would love to see your answers and get to know you better.

I love your meme. I hope you are able to get reconnected. I love your favorite homeschool book. It is one I reread every year or so.
