The Homeschool Mother’s Journal-1

I ran across this wonderful sharing meme on my dear friend Heidi’s blog and thought it would be a good one to help me get back into the blogging swing. The past year has been so busy and filled to the brim that I have found myself lacking the time to put the proverbial “pen to paper”. So perhaps if I can commit myself to at least posting once a week I can work back up to my old blogging regime.

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…

Tuesday I had my colonoscopy. One little polyp was removed but not suspected to be pain creating. They want me to go for an MRI, but I am thinking a trip to the gynecologist might be a better next step. Even though they said from the CT there was nothing going on, I want to be extra sure before going for even more tests.

I also had trouble with bees this week. I know it’s winter but here in South Carolina we had a few warm days and apparently woke up some of the critters. I killed one, actually split it in half, but the bottom half fell on the carpet and I could not find it. That is until I stepped on it. Did you know they can still sting even when you think you’ve killed them? Ouch. Then Friday morning, would you not know it, I stepped on another bee (not the same one). Drat! What a way to wake up. Hopefully that will be the end of that.

In our homeschool this week…

The kids have been working through their assignments mostly on their own with little or no problems.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

Besides going to the doctors this week, my middle son had a job interview at Taco Bell on Monday. He’s still waiting to hear back. Wednesday my dad took my son fishing for a few hours at the river. That evening he had Venturing Scouts. Now that he has earned his Eagle there is little he can do with Boy Scouts so he has joined the other branch of scouting were he can still be active. My daughter had basketball practice Wednesday also and my dad was kind enough to shuttle her for me because of the timing of both events. Thursday was our trip to the laundry mat to dry our clothes (dryer died before Christmas). We actually enjoy going to the laundry mat because we usually play a card game while waiting for the clothes to dry. Friday my son left for Winter Fest in Tennessee with his Venturing Crew and my daughter and I took my dad out to lunch at O’Charlie’s.

My favorite thing this week was…

I have two favorite things this week. One is that while I still don’t know what is causing my pain, learning that there was nothing seriously wrong with my colon is a real blessing.

The second is the special time and conversations I had with my dad throughout the week.

What’s working/not working for us…

I think that printing out the full year of lesson plans for my children has really been working well. They no longer have to wait for me to assign subjects and can work ahead if they want.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…

I wonder how many homeschooling moms really don’t like scoring their children’s assignments. It is one of my least favorite things to do. I can generally tell if my kids are learning just by having conversations with them. Just one of those things that need to be done, I guess.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

As this is my first entry in this category, I don’t have any photos to share, so I’ll share a quote that I ran across this week from Charlotte Mason:

“The child, though under supervision, should be left much to himself–both that he may go to work in his own way on the ideas that he receives, and also that he may be the more open to natural influences.”
