As we began to prepare for our little trip this weekend, one of my worst nightmares began to unfold before my eyes. If you are a regular reader you know about my feelings towards ants, but for those of you who don’t already know, I can’t stand them. I would rather deal with a ton of spiders than creepy, crawly ants. This morning we were very confident that we would be able to beat the rain and that packing our pop-up would be a breeze because we had planned ahead. Wrong. As we began to open the camper, we came across a swarm of ants. Ok, we thought, we’ll brush them off and be done with it. But as we began to open the camper a little more, we found more swarms, and then even more. It was clear that the camper had literally billions and billions of teeny, tiny, moving black creatures and they had made themselves so comfortable that they had nests of ant larvae all over too. They were under the mattresses, along the tracks, in the cupboards, literally all over. We used the window cleaner to try and kill them, but it seemed the more we killed the more showed up. Then my husband grabbed the broom and tried to sweep them out. Ants were flying everywhere. We emptied out everything we had in the camper including the mattresses, cushions and anything else not tied down and tried to get them off. They were crawling all over us and believe you, me, I was not a happy camper. Just writing about this makes me itchy and my skin feel like they are crawling on me again. Then my husband tried to suck them up with the shop vac. That made some progress but it just wasn’t getting the job done. Finally we pulled out the Sevin and mixed up an ant toxic cocktail. In between the raindrops, my husband sprayed everything in, out and around the camper. By this time the rain was coming down really good. After running a few errands we returned to find thousands of little black specs of ant corpses all over the place. We grabbed some rags and cleaner and proceeded to remove the debris. We were almost done, and then I opened the refrigerator. Ugh! Another swarm. We easily eradicated those and I’m pretty sure we got them all. I sure hope so and I sure hope that I can wipe them out of my mind so I can get a good night sleep. Just when we finally got them out of my kitchen they invade someplace else. Persistent little buggers.

Ugh! I feel your pain! I'm having a time right now with those in my kitchen. Just when I think we've gotten the better of them….they're baaaaack. Not sure, like you, I'd rather have spiders though…
Thanks for the warm welcome back to the blogosphere! It feels good to be back.
