Rain and Gardening Thoughts

It has been raining here for quite a few days. We had had plans to till the soil in the garden this weekend and hope that Sunday will be dry enough to do it. We are really looking forward to garden-fresh vegetables this summer. We have already bought our seeds. We are planning on sticking to the things that seem to do well in out yard; broccoli, tomatoes, cucumbers and winter squash. We have to keep our eyes out better this year for the crawling vermin that ate the squash and beans last year. We try to stay organic which makes critter control hard. My dad always has a wonderfully fruitful garden but he had some trouble last year also. It seems I didn’t inherit his green thumb but I try.  The kids are excited too and have picked pumpkin seed and sunflowers to plant also. We will probably plant them somewhere other than in the garden that will allow for more sunlight and space. It looks like a whole lot of folks are getting back into the home garden. Even the First Lady is getting her hands into the dirt.

When is the best time to plant pumpkin seeds? Should they be planted away from the other things? We want to plant some also. I love your blog Ginny! It's awesome!

Good luck with the garden prep plans. I don't think

this weekend will work….unless you plan to grow rice.

My lettuce, spinach, pole beans, sugar peas, onions, carrotts and radishes are up. All we need now is some sun and heat.

Here is the actual post on these buns…they do use a bread machine…I don't have one so I have to do mine by hand!

Thanks for the advice on the pumpkins!
