Oh what a relief it is.

This week’s assignment:

Tell about something you’ve struggled with and how God’s mercies gave us the strength to get past it. Also, share any curriculum/homeschool methods that have been a relief to you, i.e., a particular Teacher’s Manual or Homeschooling method that’s been easier for your family. Talk about how you felt when the burden was lifted and Oh, What a Relief it is!

This week’s Memory Verse:
Psalms 55:22
Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee; He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

There have been many struggles over the past five years with our homeschooling lifestyle. One that has been especially difficult is my desire to ‘cover it all’. How quickly we often forget that we didn’t learn everything we know in 12 years of school. It has taken many years beyond grade school to acquire the knowledge that we have of our world. Sometimes I lose sight of that and try to teach the kids everything I have learned about a particular subject. Well, as you can imagine, that goes over well. After about 10 minutes of what I think are interesting tidbits and fascinating facts, glazed expressions of boredom paint their faces and the dust bunny in the middle of the floor becomes a welcome distraction. Through the years God has helped me learn to let up a bit and have the kids direct the conversations when it comes to sharing more information. He uses many things to curb my enthusiasm to do it all, including my children reining me in when I get off on a tangent. I think He also uses my issue with time to help me stay focused: less time, less trivia pursuit. He has helped me keep my eye on Him with the simplicity of just spending time with the kids exploring what interests them thus preparing them for what He has planned and not what I desire them to do. This has brought a lot of peace to my heart knowing that I don’t have to teach them everything, and that nurturing their passions is more important than trying to stuff their minds with every little thing that crosses my path. This is definitely an ongoing process.

Proverbs 3:6-
In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.

LOL..I am right there with you. I have to remind myself that nurturing their passions is more important than trying to do everything that crosses my path. It is an ongoing process here, also. It's like wanting more time in a day. I want more & more years to teach.

BTW, Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I know what you mean about wanting to cover it all and then having your children look at you like your speaking in German.. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your story.. Many blessings <><

I think this is going to be a hard assignment for me.. I'm such a lazy homeschooler I just don't stress about things. I love the tangents.. and it's OK if my kids are not interested in my tangents..lol I have no goals so I never strive to meet them.. ..

Thanks for sharing your insights in this assignment. I find I get rambling on a topic that interests ME but doesn't interest my kids, so I need to remember your advice. 8~) Thanks for visiting my blog!

    Blessings,

Great thoughts and thank you for sharing your heart. I can really relate to wanting to just teach my children everything all at once. That's why I'm glad for a guided curriculum! It guides me but doesn't restrict me either.

I will need to come back to your words from time to time. I think it is very important that us new homeschooling mom's listen to what the experience homeschooling mom's have or have not done.

    God Bless.
