Flashback Friday- Saturday Afternoons

When I think back over my childhood days, I often remember Saturdays with fondness.  Growing up we had only a few TV channels, 3 or 4 I think.  There was no cable so whatever signals our antenna on the roof could pull in, that’s what we had.  One particular channel was our Saturday afternoon favorite.  WVLI, channel 56 from Boston came in like a charm.  So, most Saturdays, after doing our chores, I remember settling in, my dad in his chair, my mom reading her book, and we kids, sitting on the floor, waiting for:

Some of you may disagree, but I enjoyed those old monster movies.  The good guys always won and it was so surreal, who would take them seriously.  Two series of movies were my favorites.

I still enjoy a good monster movie every now and then, but today’s movies are way too scary, so I’ll stick with the old ones.

Oh my….now that IS a flashback! I used to love Creature Feature, and I was only about 3 or 4 when I used to watch it! I had this thing for monsters then, but like you, I can't do the modern ones. Too disturbing.

    Thanks for joining me!

I'm with ya! The old ones were fun scary as opposed to the new version of scary which is just lots of blood. We even watched "The Birds" recently which was such a scary movie when I was young.

Ok, so it's still pretty scary to me! =P

We only get 4 channels on our tv now. We don't have cable. I am glad since the tv is not such a draw to sit in front of. I can't stand todays scary movies but the oldies are good.

    Dawn

Every so often, these monster movies pop up on

our TV, but the only ones I watch again is Abbot & Costello's Meet the Frankinstein movie, etc…

Godzilla no longer appeals to me…to fake for me.

Glad you remember the good old days, when we had more time to watch and relax.

I used to like watching Shirley Temple, Tarzan, Abbot and Costello, and Laurel and Hardy. I had to watch them on the black and white set with the antennae in my parent's bedroom so my dad could watch his sports on the color set (with antennae but better reception).

    Blessings,

    Laurie

Love this blog. As the kids say, it's way cool. You did a great job. Even now I don't like to watch monster movies of any kind. Love, mom
