My Gift of Joy

Written for my oldest son.

Just yesterday I was waiting,
To meet my brand new joy,
Enter into this great big world,
My tiny little boy.

Hands so small and eyes so blue,
I received you with a smile,
I held you in my arms so close,
If only for a while.

Through frogs and mud and childhood days,
They seemed to go so fast,
I wished that they would last forever,
But childhood days have past.

I watched you grow and as you grew,
I knew you’d always be,
A tiny treasure sent from God,
Given for a time to me.

Beneath the man that stands there now,
I will always see that boy,
I met that day some years ago,
God’s precious gift of joy.

A beautiful poem that nearly bought a tear to my eye. What a gift we have with being Mothers.

Very lovely poem. It speaks what I feel as well, although my oldest just turned 7! Those seven years have been wonderful, but have gone by so quickly.
