Weekend Adventures
What a busy weekend we had! My Brownie Troop and I spent Friday night at Carowinds Camp Wilderness campground. We had a grand time. I personally would not recommend the campground if you are looking for a peaceful, spacious visit. The sites are quite small and the campground is in the flight path of Douglas International Airport. We were also subjected to the trains running on one side of the grounds and the sounds of … Continue reading
My Daughter Bridges to Cadets
Last night, amidst torrential downpours outside, the sun was shining on us as our Girl Scout troops had their end of the year Bridging Ceremony. My daughter moved up to Cadets. They made special notice of her achievements. She was the first in her troop to achieve her Bronze Award, the highest award given to Juniors, earlier this year and earned the most Junior Badges, 32, The Sign of the Rainbow and the Sign of … Continue reading
Summer Journaling
Even while most kids take a break from schoolwork for the summer months, I think that keeping their creative juices flowing by writing in their journals is a wonderful idea. Next year I think that I will start keeping a writing journal along with my kids. I have written all of these prompts and yet I have not written anything for them. I think that might be fun. They brought this one home to clean so that my son could take it with him tonight to his Boy Scout campout. He was so excited to be able to cook it over an open fire this weekend. But the real story actually belongs to … Continue reading
Pigs in a Bean Bag
I made my first pork roast the other night and had about 2 pounds of pork leftover. I have not had good luck reheating meats, so I tend to create other stuff from leftovers. This may not be a new recipe but it came out really great and was super fast and easy to make. My husband gave them their name because he said that instead of pigs in a blanket they looked like pigs … Continue reading
More School Year Thoughts
We didn’t get to take very many field trips this year and we had to basically stop the skating lessons. Besides the rising cost of fuel, concerns about the economy caused us to limit those things deemed extra. But the kids had another very persuasive motivation to keep them focused on completing their assignments. Both the kids worked hard so that they could spend time with their Pépère fishing and other things. I can’t say … Continue reading
